Emma

My Hitty doll is suppose to arrive on Saturday. In the meantime, I'm going to continue to do posts on my other dolls (especially since I'll probably be spending a lot of time with Hitty once she gets here).

Emma is a Play Wonder doll that I got at Target. I was browsing through the doll section one day when I saw her. She was on sale for almost half off her original price so I had to buy her. She is such a pretty doll and she looks very unique compared to my other dolls. I love that her hair is two different colors and the length is wonderful. Play Wonder dolls are made by Madame Alexander so they are made the same. Emma head will tilt like Madame Alexander dolls which makes taking pictures of her very fun. She is slightly taller than American Girl dolls so she looks like an older sister to them... but she can still wear most of their clothes. I think Play Wonder dolls definitely don't get enough attention. They are gorgeous dolls that are very nice quality.

I Won Hitty!!!

I won the Hitty doll that I found on ebay! I'm so surprised because I figured the price would skyrocket at the end. She was made by one of the more famous doll makers. Similar dolls usually sell for around $100 or $150 but I won this one for only $20!! The seller must not have realized that she had a Hitty doll because she listed her just as a wooden carved doll instead of an actual Hitty doll. So I guess not too many people found her... otherwise she would've sold for so much more! I'm so excited for Hitty to get here!!! I can't wait to start taking her places and taking lots of pictures of her!

My Hitty Obsession

I love anything doll related... including books. So I was eager to read the book Hitty, Her First Hundred years because I've heard that its amazing. I was definitely not disappointed. I'm almost done with it already but I don't want it to end because its so good! For anyone that hasn't heard about it... here is a brief overview:

One day Rachel Field, the author of Hitty, was out with her friend Dorothy Lathrop when they saw a very interesting wooden doll in an antique shop. They were both fascinated by it so they decided to buy the doll, Hitty, together. This was back in the 1920s and the doll was already at least one hundred years old. They spent some time coming up with stories about where Hitty could've come from and what could've happened to her. This is how the book Hitty, Her First Hundred Years came about. Rachel wrote the book and Dorothy illustrated it. The book starts when Hitty was first carved from a piece of wood and it follows her thru her various adventures and tells how she ended up with each of her owners. Its an absolutely wonderful book. Here are some pictures of my copy of it.

There was also an updated version of the book made recently. It includes some new adventures for Hitty and has beautiful color illustrations. I ordered a copy of it a few days ago. When it arrives, I will post pictures of it.

The more I read of the Hitty book, the more obsessed I've become with her. I began searching the internet for Hitty information and found out that I'm not the only one thats obsessed with her! Hitty is everywhere! The most exciting part is that there are Hitty dolls! There are many people that carve them and sell them online, or you can buy kits and carve your own. People make these gorgeous Hitty dolls and then take them everywhere with them... making them traveling dolls like the one in the book. I have already found several websites dedicated to showing pictures of people's Hitty dolls at all the wonderful places they have been.

I think the Hitty dolls are amazing and I want one so bad! Its so neat how different they all look... yet they all resemble the doll from the book. I've been searching online for one. I don't want to make my own because I would like to buy one thats had a previous home. I like the idea that my doll would have had a previous life, and adventures, before me. I found one on ebay that I like and have been watching it for the past week. The auction ends in a few hours and so far I am the top bidder. I'll save all the details until after I find out if I win . For now I am anxiously waiting for the auction to end.... I'll post an update later!

I Love Barbies!

I have always loved Barbie dolls. So when I find something Barbie related for a great deal... I can't help but buy it. I found this Barbie doll online for only two dollars (including shipping)! She was so gorgeous so I couldn't pass her up. I think she is so pretty. Although I originally had a different name picked out for her, once I saw her I decided to name her Cynthia after Angelica's doll on the show Rugrats because I think she looks like (a slightly prettier version of) Cynthia... only with better hair.

I also bought Marissa, my Bitty Baby, a new dress. Its the denim and plaid meet outfit that the American Girl Bitty Twins used to come in. I found it used online for a really good price. I think it looks great on her! Here is a picture of Marissa (in her new dress) with Cynthia.

Gracie

This weekend is the local craft show where I live. I love to go and look at all the amazing stuff that people sell. I decided to go yesterday in the hopes of finding a rabbit doll that I could turn into Edward Tulane from the book The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. Surprisingly, there was only one booth that had rabbit dolls. I was looking at them trying to pick out the perfect one to be Edward when I saw an adorable goose doll. As adorable as the rabbits were, the goose was much cuter. And she was the only one so I instantly wanted her. It didn't help that the owner of the booth came up to me and started telling me how lonely the goose was because she wanted a new home so bad. Needless to say, I bought her! She is so adorable and so soft and cuddly that I want to hug her all the time. She is so well made and the detail on her is amazing. I named her Gracie the Goose.

Barnes and Noble

Yesterday we went to Barnes and Noble in the hopes of finding the Caroline display. At first I was really disappointed because we found the American Girl section and they had a display with Caroline books but they didn't have a display for a doll giveaway. But then, as we were leaving, I noticed that on the other side of the kid's section they had another American Girl display with a Caroline doll! Why they had the second display on the other side... I have no idea but I was so excited! Caroline is so pretty!!! We actually had to ask for an entry form because they didn't have any out. Apparently someone stole them all... I'm guessing because they didn't want anyone else to enter the contest. Anyways... I am now entered. I also bought her first book. I'm almost done with it already. Its so good!!!

Lola

Lola represents a lot of first for me. She was the first doll that I ever bought off ebay, she was my first tlc doll, she was the first doll that I ever worked on, and she was the first doll that I ever rescued and restored. Every time I look at her I can still remember how much fun I had working on her and how excited I was when I finally finished her.

I purchased Lola off ebay from a nice lady that found her in a thrift store. The lady was shocked when she got home, took Lola's shoes off, and realized that her feet had been burned. It looked like someone had left Lola standing on a lamp or some other hot object too long. One of her feet was solid black. Her other foot was melted to the point where it was hollow in the middle. Poor Lola couldn't even stand on her own because her feet were damaged too much. The nice lady that bought her didn't know how to fix her so she listed her on ebay. The second I saw her listing I knew I had to have her.

Once Lola arrived at my house I took her apart and cleaned her. I gave her hair a downy dunk and trimmed the ends. It took a while to find Lola a new pair of legs. In the meantime, I purchased her an adorable pair of slippers that I kept on her feet to prevent any further damage. Most of the early pictures of Lola show her either leaning on something or sitting down because she could never stand on her own.

Eventually Lola's new legs arrived. Once I put them on her she was like a whole new doll. Now she can pose for pictures and model outfits just like all the other dolls.
